10YEARS
Sneadgroup_cropped copy It is hard to believe, but this time ten years ago, we were celebrating three new amenities joining our magnificent property—these being The Snead course, The Ananda Spa, The Lodge, and The Sports Complex.
The Snead, a Tom Fazio designed masterpiece, showcases the best of what this property has to offer, while highlighting the natural landscape and elements found throughout. Fazio designed a course that is truly unique and harmonious with its surroundings, and honors the legend that inspired its very name. sneadflagrgb “The Snead Course is a fitting tribute to my dad in a place he loved very much and where he truly took his place as golf’s ambassador,” said Jack Snead. “It ensures that his spirit will live on among generations of golfers to come.” The course architect himself could not have been happier with the design. This is what he had to say at the grand opening in 2004. “In my 30 odd years of designing courses, I have never felt as pleased as I am with The Snead,” said Tom Fazio. “The setting couldn’t be more beautiful, surrounded by lush meadows and running streams. The Greenbrier is noted for its world-class golf courses, and the one we just finished is no exception.” lodgeconstruction copy Even after a decade, I think we can all agree that Mr. Fazio is still correct.
On the same date ten years ago, “Ananda in the Alleghenies” Spa opened its doors to members. This Eastern inspired oasis has offered massage, wraps, facials, pedicures, and manicures – each offered in treatment rooms overlooking The Snead course, White Rock Mountain, and Howard’s Creek. scompconstruciton copy
Those members looking to maintain a fitness regime did not have to look much further. The Sports Complex also opened in 2004, and began offering the latest in Cybex cardio-fitness equipment and fitness classes, as well as two ASB squash courts and a 25-foot indoor climbing wall. And, we cannot forget the popular outdoor heated infinity pool and three Har-Tru tennis courts! Last, but certainly not least, the 32,000-square foot Members’ Lodge that features the Pro Shop, several meeting rooms, bar, and exquisite restaurant was at the heart of the grand opening ten years ago and that sentiment remains true to this day. The Lodge, along with The Snead, The Ananda Spa, and The Sports Complex have become over the years the social hub of activity at The Greenbrier Sporting Club, and offer every member the chance to truly experience The Sporting Life.
