Fly Fishing

As a member of The Greenbrier Sporting Club, you will have access to world-class fly fishing, which remains a hugely popular pastime.

Step out the back door at The Hunt Cabin to fish Howard’s Creek, our on-property trout stream, where you will find plenty of browns and rainbows to keep your rod bent. Largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch, and catfish fill the pond at The Hunt Cabin and the ponds on The Snead, making them a great place to take anyone fishing. All of the waters on The GSC campus are catch and release, and Howard’s Creek is fly fishing only.

If you are a bit more adventurous and want to get outside of The Club gates, our local fisheries are excellent. The Greenbrier, James, and New Rivers are full of smallmouth and musky. We have several excellent local trout streams, and if you are really looking for a wilderness trip, we have some of the best brook trout habitats left in the world.

If your skill level just is not up to par, our excellent staff of guides will get you tuned up. Jacob Ott, our Director of Outdoor Pursuits/Naturalist is an International Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting instructor and our roster of guides are excellent instructors and anglers. We can cover all aspects of our fishing, from basic casting instruction to more advanced techniques, as well as gear selection and rigging.

Our location in the Greenbrier Valley allows us to take advantage of all the great waters and fisheries that surround us. From the high mountains and our native brook trout to the big rivers and bigger musky, we will get you catching them all.
