Lewisburg, W.Va., the historic and hip town of 3,500 people just down the road from The Greenbrier, garnered over 140,000 votes on its way to being crowned “The Coolest Small Town in America” by Budget Travel magazine over the past three months. With numerous restaurants, shops, parks and nightlife options, Lewisburg has long been considered the “Jewel of West Virginia,” and now the community is reveling in their newfound distinction.
West Virginia natives and film stars Jennifer Garner (Alias, Daredevil) and Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me, 30 Days) got in on the game by tweeting for their fans to go vote, and newly elected West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin even filmed a short television spot from his offices in D.C. While Astoria, Ore. tried their best to pull ahead, Lewisburg rallied through social networking and public events to ultimately obtain more votes than any other town in the contest’s history.
With the wind at its back, Lewisburg looks
forward to hosting its annual Chocolate Festival on April 9th. As always, the town also celebrates the first Friday of every month with extended hours, live music in the green space and complimentary hors’ d’oevres and drinks in many of the boutiques and shops.
