A restored and reimagined Meadows Course officially opened for play today at The Greenbrier, with a Grand Opening ceremony that included a ribbon cutting by The Greenbrier President Jill Justice, D.O., and The Greenbrier Director of Golf Maintenance Kelly Shumate.
Closed since the floods of June 23, 2016, The Meadows reopened for play on August 17, 2017. The Old White TPC, which also closed immediately following the flood, opened for The Greenbrier Classic on July 3, 2017, and for public play on July 10.
“This is an exciting day for The Greenbrier,” said Justice. “We have come a long way in a little more than a year, and to now have 36 fantastic golf holes open for play is a testament to the incredible work of so many Team Members at The Greenbrier. The history of golf at The Greenbrier is unprecedented, and these two courses live up to the standard that has been set for more than a century.”
A Team Greenbrier effort led by Shumate and his staff, the restored Meadows Course serves as a perfect complement to the historic C.B. Macdonald Old White TPC Course, which opened in 1914. The modern, strategic layout of The Meadows includes new signature bunker concepts in an entertaining, but challenging design. Water comes into play on eight different holes throughout the course, providing a challenge that is not common on The Old White TPC.
The fresh routing path of the course has also opened up the opportunity for new real estate in association with The Greenbrier Sporting Club. Shawnee Corner is a new neighborhood along the third fairway of The Meadows that offers breathtaking mountain views, as well as a central location to The Greenbrier and The Greenbrier Sporting Club. Real estate options are also available along holes 1, 2, 4, 5, 16 and 17.
“We’re extremely pleased with how the new Meadows Course turned out, and we’re excited to show it off,” said Burt Baine, Vice President of Golf, The Greenbrier. “We know guests are going to enjoy their time on The Meadows, and we’re excited to see golfers from around the world coming to The Greenbrier to appreciate the experience of golf at America’s Resort.”
Rates on The Meadows Course are $250 for registered guests and $300 for non-registered guests. Twilight rounds after 3 p.m. are $150 for registered guests and $200 for non-registered guests. Greens fees are waived for Greenbrier Sporting Club members. To schedule a tee time, call 877-599-9153 (option 1) or email teetimes@greenbrier.com.
